    The Benefits of Chiropractic Care

    Last updated 7 months ago

If you suffer from chronic pain, chiropractic care could be the answer that finally brings you some relief. Chiropractic care, which involves spinal manipulation to relieve pressure on joints and nerves, can treat a number of different ailments. At pain centers dedicated to managing chronic pain, chiropractic care is often a big part of patient treatment plans. Here are some of the benefits of receiving care from a chiropractor:

    Reduced Back and Neck Pain
In most cases, back and neck pain result when a portion of the spine presses on one of the spinal nerves. This pressure can be the result of a degenerative disc disease, misalignment, or injury. During a chiropractic treatment session, a chiropractor will manipulate your spine to help restore it to its proper position, relieving the pressure on the nerve that is causing pain.

If you suffer from this kind of chronic pain, a chiropractor may also work with you on your posture to prevent slouching and further irritating the inflamed nerve.

    Improved Arthritis Pain
If you have arthritis pain, your joints are probably subluxated, or locked, because of cartilage breakdown. During chiropractic treatment, these joints are coaxed into unlocking so that they don’t place pressure on the nerves in those joints. Regular treatments will leave you more mobile, which will also help keep arthritis pain at bay.

    Less Frequent Migraines
Chronic migraines are a mystery to the medical community, though many researchers suspect that a chemical imbalance in the brain is to blame. Chiropractors believe that a misalignment in the spine could trigger the imbalance that causes migraines. With treatment, a chiropractor can keep your spine in alignment, reducing migraines. A recent study conducted by Northwestern College of Chiropractic showed that chiropractic care was as effective in treating migraines as the popular migraine drug amitriptyline.

Here is what you can expect during your first visit to the Pain & Wellness Center:

    Initial Consultation
The first thing we will do when you arrive at the clinic is complete an extensive patient medical history interview and perform a physical exam. During this process, we will try to understand the nature of your pain and any underlying medical conditions that could be contributing to it. We will also get information about any medication you are taking that could either be contributing to your pain or that influences the kind of pain interventions we can use.

    Block Procedure
Block procedures let us locate the exact area from which your pain is originating. We use a small needle to move through a specific nerve or joint. This needle is filled with anesthesia, so the procedure is comfortable for the patient. By performing a block, we can see if you have an injury or a stressor that is pressing on a nerve, causing pain.

    Discography
If we suspect that a herniated or torn disc in your spine is the source of your pain, we will perform a discography. During this procedure, dye is injected into the spinal disc, and then an X-ray is performed. The X-ray pictures will help us identify injury or degeneration of your spinal disc or discs, so we can tailor your treatment accordingly.

At Pain & Wellness Center, your first visit with us is about learning everything we can so we can devise an individualized treatment plan for you. Don’t live with chronic pain.
