What to Expect from Your First Visits to the Pain & Wellness Center

Last updated 7 months ago

If you are dealing with chronic pain, making an appointment at Peabody’s Pain & Wellness Center is the first step to reclaiming your life. Our approach to pain care is completely unique. We use interdisciplinary treatments tailored specifically to your individual needs. Also, our Providers’ Roundtable discussions, which are held biweekly at our pain center, let each of our providers consult on your case, so you get the full benefit of the expertise of all of our talented pain management experts. Here is what you can expect during your first visit to the Pain & Wellness Center:

Initial Consultation
The first thing we will do when you arrive at the clinic is complete an extensive patient medical history interview and perform a physical exam. During this process, we will try to understand the nature of your pain and any underlying medical conditions that could be contributing to it. We will also get information about any medication you are taking that could either be contributing to your pain or that influences the kind of pain interventions we can use.

Block Procedure
Block procedures let us locate the exact area from which your pain is originating. We use a small needle to move through a specific nerve or joint. This needle is filled with anesthesia, so the procedure is comfortable for the patient. By performing a block, we can see if you have an injury or a stressor that is pressing on a nerve, causing pain.

Discography
If we suspect that a herniated or torn disc in your spine is the source of your pain, we will perform a discography. During this procedure, dye is injected into the spinal disc, and then an X-ray is performed. The X-ray pictures will help us identify injury or degeneration of your spinal disc or discs, so we can tailor your treatment accordingly.

At Pain & Wellness Center, your first visit with us is about learning everything we can so we can devise an individualized treatment plan for you. Don’t live with chronic pain. Let us help you get back to enjoying life. Make an appointment at our Peabody pain center today by calling (978) 826-7230.
