4 Tips for Physical Therapy

Last updated 4 months ago

Physical therapy can encompass many different treatments, can address several issues, and the therapies available are as numerous as the ailments themselves. Whether you’re recovering from an accident, suffering from chronic body pain, or treating a work- or sports-related injury, physical therapy helps you work through the healing process.

Your pain and wellness center’s physical therapist is only the first part of the solution. You are the most important component in your physical therapy, regardless of the degree of treatment you require. Here are a few tips to improve your experience both at the pain clinic and at home while you undergo treatment with a physical therapist:

  • Choose your PT wisely. An excellent physical therapist will not only assist, but educate you in your course of therapy, offering you techniques in self-management that you can do at home.
  • It is very likely that you will have an at-home regimen, and your appointments with your physical therapist depend on you to follow the given exercises as prescribed. Much of the daily improvement you see will be thanks to you working in conjunction with your appointments at your pain clinic.

  • Follow the advice your physical therapist gives you. Your PT can offer invaluable techniques for use in your workplace, at home, or anywhere else.  Remaining conscientious of your body movements will keep you from aggravating an existing injury and will go a long way to the prevention of new accidents.
  • Exercise regularly. Beyond the many benefits of keeping yourself in shape, your body heals more efficiently and more quickly with proper exercise. If you can maintain a level of fitness that reduces strain on any problem areas you have, your physical therapy will be smoother and easier.
